THE MIDWEST'S NEWEST DESTINATION: THE NEBRASKA GOLF TRAIL
By BRIAN WRIGHT
Question: What do you do when you have a friendly little community of championship golf courses that are all looking to increase rounds? Answer: You become a golf destination. Or, in the case of 5 award-winning facilities located within one hour from each other near Nebraska City, NE, you become the Nebraska Golf Trail.
Nebraska City is a no-frills, down-home kind of community that offers an unpretentious atmosphere. The National Arbor Day Society has its "roots" in Nebraska City (sorry, couldn't resist that one) and in fact, has a "stake" in Lied Lodge - the official lodging partner for the Nebraska Golf Trail. Lied Lodge & Conference Center is a 5-star facility offering its guests comfortable accommodations, fine dining, and many other amenities. Located just five minutes away from ArborLinks Golf Course, the Lied Lodge provides a convenient location to begin exploring the Nebraska Golf Trail.
The Trail combines 5 unique and memorable layouts. The courses which make up the trail include two Arnold Palmer-designed courses — ArborLinks Golf Course and The Players Club at Deer Creek, Quarry Oaks Golf Course (nestled against the Platte River), Iron Horse Golf Club and Woodland Hills Golf Course.
"This is our first year trying to pool our resources in terms of marketing," says Brandon Burns, Director of Golf at ArborLinks Golf Course. "During the first quarter of the year we started promoting the Nebraska Golf Trail in the Minneapolis, MN and Kansas City, MO markets. We think those areas offer a significant number of golfers who might enjoy what we have to offer."
So far, the group has been pleased with the interest they have received from golfers throughout the Midwest.
"We had quite a few golfers come down from the Minneapolis area early this spring," states Burns. "We've also had a lot of interest from people in Omaha and Lincoln. Those golfers who may have just come over and played one or two courses are taking advantage of our golf packages and staying at Lied Lodge and playing all five courses. We really hadn't anticipated that so it's been a nice suprise."
As of now, ArborLinks Golf Course is handling all the reservations duties for the Trail.
"Right now, we don't really have a need to set up a reservation agent specifically for the Trail. We are fielding all the calls at ArborLinks and then coordinating tee times and lodging for people wanting to take advantage of our golf packages," Burns says. "As we grow in popularity among golfers throughout the Midwest, we'll probably need to set up a golf desk just to handle the calls for the Trail."
Lied Lodge & Conference Center is a 5-star facility that offers its guests comfortable accommodations, fine dining, and many other amenities. With its close proximity to ArborLinks Golf Course, Lied Lodge offers golfers a convenient location to begin exploring the Nebraska Golf Trail. The courses have put together some attractive golf packages including the Ultimate Golf Weekend Package which includes two nights lodging (including breakfast) and five rounds of golf for less than $400 per person.
